The Best Of: Old Feed Stores
Do you like Feed Shops? This might seem like an odd question and in every right I suppose that it is, but bear with me here.
Just recently the local feed store has been purchased by a large big box chain and the original store has literally been overshadowed by the large concrete box constructed not 60 feet away. The new store is nice. It has waxed floors and looks pretty and such (automatic doors, bright lights, perfect displays......); but I have to say, I miss the old store.
To walk into a store and be greeted by the strong wafting scent of hay and leather over old concrete floors shined by the scuffling boots of customers is one of the best things in life. If I have to pick just one thing that stands out over the others, it is that wonderful rich smell of hay. It is so hard find such a place today, it almost seems a crime to let this one go so easily. So, to anyone that remembers it, cherish those places and those memories; because, sadly, those feed stores are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
